Welcome to the 2026-2027 School Year!
Welcome to the 2026-2027 school year! The entire team at Stuart Baker Elementary is thrilled to greet our returning and new Bear Families. We hope your summer was packed with rest, joy, and wonderful moments spent with loved ones. Ahead of us lies a brand-new year filled with fresh opportunities to grow, connect, and learn together as a community.
On Thursday, September 3, you will receive an automated message via School Messenger notifying you of your child’s teacher for the 2026-2027 school year, followed by a welcome message from teachers. SBES Staff have dedicated care and attention to each child’s placement. At this time we will not be considering changes to student placements.
To ensure a seamless transition back to school, please take a moment to review the key details below:

A New Daily Rhythm: Our 120-100-80 Schedule!
We’re making a positive change to our daily routine this year to match how kids actually function best throughout the day. Instead of keeping every class the exact same length, we are switching to a 120-100-80 minute schedule to follow your child’s natural energy peaks.
We’re kicking off the day with our longest, 120-minute block while young minds are fresh and ready to soak up heavy hits like reading and math. And don’t worry—if your kids have little tummies that rumble early on, they can grab a quick snack as soon as they arrive or during this first block so they stay full and focused. As the day rolls on, we step down to a 100-minute mid-day period, and wrap up with an 80-minute afternoon block. It’s an easy tweak that sharpens student focus, boosts academic achievement, and helps everyone reach their full potential! #allbearssucceed
SBES is an allergy-aware school: Please avoid sending food items that contain nuts or nut alternatives. Additional information regarding Allergies in Schools will be sent home on September 8.
Drop-Off / Pick-up Routine
Morning Drop-off: SBES staff will be supporting students and families at the Drop-Off/Pick-up area, which is located at the entrance to the SBES parking lot. To ensure that this is a safe and efficient routine, please have your child sitting in the passenger side of the vehicle, ready to depart with belongings when a SBES staff member arrives at your car. We are asking parents to stay in their vehicles during drop-off – it helps keep this process efficient for everyone. **Please do not plan on walking your child(ren) to their door or to their classroom.
Afternoon Pick-up: At dismissal time, students will be lined up by grade at the front entry of the school. A staff member will approach your vehicle to ask who you are picking up before calling your child over. To keep the process safe and efficient, we kindly ask families to stay in their vehicles and refrain from passing other cars in line. As we maintain this familiar routine, the line will continue to move quickly and smoothly with student safety at the forefront.
We truly appreciate your ongoing patience and cooperation as we keep this system running seamlessly. As always, staff will be out front to guide traffic and lend a hand. Thank you for your continued help in keeping our SBES Bears safe! 🐻💛
Important: If there is a change to your child’s regular end-of-day routine, please contact the main office prior to 2:00pm.
Bussing Information
Bussing information is available at mybustoschool.ca. Buses unload and load at JD Hodgson E.S. and students walk along the short path to Stuart Baker. Students are able to play in the schoolyard with staff supervision until the first bell at 8:55 am. Parents of new Junior Kindergarten students will need to set up an account with mybustoschool.ca. Your email address must be the same as the one we have on file for you to enable you to have access to your child’s information.
Once logged into mybustoschool.ca be sure you register to receive bus updates. This ensures you will be sent an email when there are delays or route changes to your students’ bus routes.
TLDSB Safe Arrival – Helping Us Account for Every Bear! 🐻💛
TLDSB and Stuart Baker ES are committed to the safety of our students. If your child is going to be absent or arriving late, please let the main office know as early as possible by calling the school general mailbox (available 24/7) 705-457-1342, or emailing [email protected]
Keeping our students safe is our absolute top priority, and we need your help to make sure every single Bear is accounted for each morning. Reporting absences ahead of time saves our office staff from making individual check-in calls, keeping our lines open for emergencies and ensuring we quickly know that every child is safe and sound. We truly appreciate your partnership in keeping our attendance process smooth and, most importantly, keeping our school community safe!
Student Belongings
Students are asked to bring only essential items to school (backpack, lunch, water bottle, indoor shoes, hat, extra clothes). Please ensure all essential items are labeled. Stuffed animals must be left at home. Toys or equipment that are used at recess must be kept in bags during instructional time.
Technology/Cell phones
Following Ontario’s school rule (PPM 128), all personal phones, tablets, and smartwatches need to be put away and silenced for the entire school day. Parents that wish to connect with students may call the office to arrange for communication.
During the first week of school, families will also receive important information, including student forms, key dates, the SBES Newsletter, and details from classroom teachers.
We look forward to welcoming everyone back to school next week!
